Design Study / Spec Project

This project consisted of a fun brand conception for a startup boutique gin distillery. Our background in food & beverage design consultation combined with a historical curiosity to provide a whimsical exploration of British distillation, while at the same time challenging ourselves to equip our “client” with an identity which would honor their culture & position them to compete in an increasingly crowded spirits space.

Because the brand is HQ’d in Cornwall, with a deep connection to the sea, these elements needed to be considered. We settled on the name “Cadastre” for a connection to ancient cartography. This opened the door for research into period mapping imagery, of course. When the historical “Red Ruth Brewery & Distillery” was discovered in an old map, research into their advertising archive revealed a unique character style, which inspired the “Cadastre” wordmark.

Further recognition was inspired by the county’s coat of arms, which features a Cornish chough (crow) & 15 bezants (coins).

Because we also specialize in naming & slogans, we settled on “Botanicals Without Boundaries”. No explanation needed, as it’s excellent in every possible way.

Cadastre Gin is not a real product. It would be pretty good, though, huh? Maybe someday. When considering a new business identity or product launch, we feel it’s important to really dive deep into the culture, history, conviction, and of course, goals of our clients. When you as our client are inspired by the results, you’ll gain a significant enthusiasm for your venture. It will be infectious for all involved. That will help you push through the challenges with confidence & determination.

Now then, how about a G&T?

If you've worked hard to build your business's reputation and appeal, all of that equity is now  connected to your logo and other visual elements. Whether you are staring a new venture or revitalizing an existing brand, even the smallest nuance can make or break a logo.
